A special kind of ignorance

RE: When the alt-news bubble bursts.  By Noelle Allen.  Allen is the publisher of Wolsak and Wynn, a “small press located on James Street North” and she lives in the lower city.  The Hamilton Spectator 25 Feb 22.

It takes a special kind of ignorance to write a column like the one by Noelle Allen.  And the arrogance of the alleged genteel, “educated” class.  Allen must have taken mind reading courses.  How else could she pretend to know how the truckers – to a man (and woman) – voted?  How else could she know that all of them – to a man (and a woman) believed that they had rights under the First Amendment of the U.S. constitution, (actually, they do, but in the U.S.!)  - as if they all weren’t aware of their rights under Articles 2 and 7 of the Charter?  She alleged all of them belonged to a “hard-right fringe” that could somehow inspire 100,000 people to donate over $10 million to the cause!

She elevated one proffered solution to a grievance above resolution of the grievance itself.  She seems incapable of trying to understand what these thousands of truckers and the thousands of people who cheered their progress across the country were grieved about.  And it wasn’t a lack of understanding “the science.”  It was a recognition that the people exercising arbitrary and abusive power didn’t understand it!

Allen obviously doesn’t understand Canada’s constitution as well as she thinks.  She’s obviously unaware of the Byng-King affair.  The PM doesn’t just need the confidence of the House, the PM also requires the confidence of the GG.  Remember, Trudeau proposed that parliament be suspended for two years and he be given unlimited spending power to deal with the pandemic.  How constitutionally crazy is that?

The solution to the truckers’ grievance lay in compromise – which Trudeau was incapable of doing.  Lift the unscientific vaccine mandate on the truckers, and the protest would have been over.  But no.  It required the invocation of the Emergencies Act, like he were a Putin.  Then he revoked it when he was going to lose the vote in the Senate.

That Allen despites the truckers for their class is obvious.  But in expressing her contempt for the irredeemably deplorable, she betrays in herself an ignorance and an arrogance that is truly breathtaking.
