Irrational school closings

By asking how a policy action is supposed to reach a policy goal, you quickly realize that the lockdown and vaccination policies of Ontario are irrational.

For example, how does keeping kids out of school and universities closed protect the health care system?  Those under 29 are at greater risk of death from the seasonal flu than they are from COVID.  That’s the data, but that fact hasn’t penetrated the skulls of the heads running Ontario.  Unless the individual has complex medical problems, a COVID infection is either asymptomatic or produces mild symptoms in those under 29.  They simply aren’t going to be hospitalized.  Instead of keeping the young and healthy together, closing schools keeps the young mixed up with those at greater risk of hospitalization.

The mass vaccination program was supposed to induce herd immunity by last September.  Achieving herd immunity by vaccination is supposed to be preferable to achieving it by mass infection of the virus.  Vaccination failed to produce herd immunity, even at 90 percent vaccination rate.  What is the response to the latest wave?  A third dose of vaccine!  If vaccination to a 90 percent rate failed to induce herd immunity, why does Dr. Moore think boosting to 90 percent will achieve it?  The only way, apparently, to achieve herd immunity is to develop it naturally, and locking down Ontario is meant to delay acquiring natural immunity!

(BTW, Alberta achieved 90 percent vaccination less than four months ago, and cases are exploding there.  They’re higher now that at the peak of the fourth wave in the last days of September.  Boosting after four months – what’s the point?  If vaccination merely reduces symptoms, then the only end of this happens after you’ve had the real thing.)

How does shuttering businesses to the 90 percent who are vaccinated, and to those under 65, who are at little risk of hospitalization even if infected, going to protect the health care system?  What are the health consequences of the policy?

If this is a wave of the unvaccinated, then why is Ontario dispensing with its vaccine passport system and closing businesses anyhow?

The alleged experts running Ontario are incapable of critical thinking.  They’ve told so many stories intended to keep the public in fear, that they can’t keep them straight any more.
