Hillary Can’t Save Herself

Hillary Clinton can do nothing to promote her candidacy.  She can’t give press interviews without having to deal with the corrosive email scandals that promise to destroy her campaign, and possibly lead to her loss of freedom.  She can’t give speeches without reminding people why they hate listening to that voice.  And except for those who have drunk the Kool-aid, picking out the lies she tells in her speeches has become a parlor game.  She is dead in the water, as President Barack Obama observed in his speech to the Democrat convention, when he encouraged Democrats to carry Hillary across the finish line.

(Another Freudian slip occurred when he said, “In case you were wondering about her judgement, look at her choice of running mate.  Tim Kaine….  If you drop the adjective ‘running’ the example turns on Hillary’s choice of a husband, namely Bill.  Bill as a husband is no prize and yet he was Hillary’s choice.  What does that say about her judgement?)

At the end of the campaign, Bernie Sanders endorsed Hillary with statements about what she “understands.”  Obama regaled the DNC with tales of what Hillary “knew.”  There is a difference in kind between logical reasoning and practical reasoning.  The praise was all couched in terms of logical reasoning, while a politician’s job concerns practical reasoning.  Practical reasoning results in what a person chooses to do, and is based upon appetite, i.e. what motivates a person.  King Louis XVI of France both knew and understood that his people were poor and suffering and fearful of his tyranny.  He did nothing about it, and the French Revolution broke out after the people had had enough and discovered his weakness.  Likewise, Hillary can know and Hillary can understand, but that doesn’t mean that Hillary will do anything about it - or can do anything about it.

Since practical decisions are based upon a person’s moral appetite, a person needs to be well and properly motivated to begin to make good decisions when exercising the powers of office.  Find out what truly motivates a person and there you will find a hint of what they will do in office.

In Hillary’s case, we know what motivates her: the ego gratification of becoming president, and greed.  High public office presents many opportunities for self-enrichment, and Bill and Hillary have pursued enrichment with extreme vigor and success since Bill left office.  As Secretary of State, Hillary granted the favors of her office in return for contributions to the Clinton Foundation or for speaking fees for Bill in the scores of millions of dollars.  The power of the presidency has the advantage not only of greater opportunity to grant powerful favors, but also of having no oversight.

About half of this is understood by the electorate.  The American electorate is coming the grips with the fact that Hillary is a congenital liar and has used the powers of her office to enrich herself.  They are also unconvinced about her judgement concerning practical affairs.  Her decisions over Libya, Benghazi, Syria, Iran, the Russian reset, her flip-flopping over the TPP trade pact were all based upon an appetite for self-gratification, for the applause of the progressive segment of the American electorate, rather than knowing the enlightened self-interest of the United States and a desiring to see that met.

Hillary can do nothing to advance her cause herself.  She needs to use surrogates.  Media advertising, the punditry and bias of the mainstream media, President Obama, and her own lying campaign staffers are all going to be conscripted to do a job that Hillary can’t do herself: face the electorate and convince them that she has their best interest in mind and at heart, and will do what is in her power to fulfill those interests and nothing more.

If Hillary were elected president, the United States would have Bill as first lady; that is when he was not flying on the “Lolita Express.”  The American people would have to look at that face every week and listen to that voice tell them lies.  The American people have this in prospect in exchange for what?  Hillary’s campaign program is boiler-plate progressivist-liberalism: gun control, free stuff, and single-payer health insurance.  Nothing about the deficit, but a promise to punish the well-to-do with higher tax rates.  The minority interest groups who support the Democrats get a bigger Popsicle.  Nothing about the border, nothing about resolving the crisis of illegal immigration except by ruining the rule of law, more Muslim immigration, and a promise of ruining the constitution by putting reliable liberals on the Supreme Court.  More rending of the decency in public policy cherished by Christians.  All for the applause of progressivists, and without a thought of the greater good of the United States.

To be lied to, robbed, to have Bill’s escapades in the news again, all for the sake of boiler-plate progressivism that has no chance of passing the Congress?

The case on behalf of Donald Trump makes itself.  Hillary is a ship dead in water, rudderless and powerless.  She is drifting with the wind and tide.  Presently, she seems to be drifting ahead.  All that is needed to reverse her course is a change in the wind and tide.  She can’t help herself.
