Against a rising tide of immigration

RE: Ottawa to welcome 500,000 immigrants per year.  CP story by Lee Berthiaume.

You have to shake your head at the protestations of Hamilton’s ecowarriors, climate crazies, and urban boundary fanatics.  Their favorite government, the Liberal government of Justin Trudeau just announced that it plans to increase immigrations levels to 500,000 per year.  This, despite twenty-three percent of Canada’s entire population being non-citizens.

Half a million new bodies a year adds ten million tons per year to Canada’s CO2 emissions.  Ottawa funded the construction of 17,000 new homes to deal with the existing housing crisis; that’s a ratio of 29 persons per home built by Ottawa..  In three years, the Trudeau Liberals will have brought in the equivalent in population of the city of Ottawa and the city of Hamilton combined.  Those people need space!

If you don’t want to expand Hamilton’s urban boundary, you can’t hold your position with immigration levels that high.  If you think Canada must do its share to fight climate change, the country can’t meet its net zero emission goals when immigration is pushing emissions up at the rate of ten million tons per year.  If you want to protect the wetlands around Hamilton, you won’t be able to - having to settle so many newcomers, who will have to be fed out of Canada’s domestic food supply for the most part.  Even if people don’t settle on wetlands, those lands will be needed for crops and pasture.

Ecowarriors can’t think one dimensionally any more.
