Emergencies Act hearings

The Emergencies Act hearings this week heard from the principals who emerged as leaders of the Freedom Convoy:  Chris Barber, Tamara Lich, Tom Marazzo, and Daniel Bulford.  The overwhelming impression is that the Convoy attracted a lot of talent after it was formed.  The message of the Convoy resonated with a lot of people, as the reception the Convoy received across Canada and the tremendous financial support it so quickly received show.

The Convoy was formed by serious working people, people in their thirties through fifties, owner/operators most of them.  These people run million dollar businesses and have paid taxes, lots of taxes, their entire working lives.  They were lionized as essential workers through most of the pandemic.  Until Trudeau’s dictatorial style pushed them too far.  The vaccine mandates were obviously useless, for the alleged “vaccines” didn’t work.  Trudeau himself became the poster boy of vaccine uselessness.  Double vaxxed and boosted, he came down with COVID, conveniently, just before the Convoy arrived in Ottawa.

As early as January 24th, the Trudeau government began information operations to discredit the Convoy, leaking false information to its court eunuchs in the media.  Every sparrow that fell in Canada while the Convoy was in Ottawa was laid at the feet of the Convoy.  When, after two weeks, the Convoy astonishingly remained resolute, Trudeau came out of hiding to denounce these working people as “extremists, racists, misogynists, those of unacceptable views, who don’t believe in science, and who take up space.”  Meanwhile, Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson claimed the truckers were “lacking in respect.”

The CBC and the Toronto Star were, and remain, especially notorious in class snobbery towards those hard working Canadians who only wanted the government to leave them alone.

The Convoy wanted its grievances redressed, but no government official would even talk to them.  Finally, the government declared war on them through the Emergencies Act, invented new laws, and froze bank accounts across Canada.  It tried to seize the money raised to support the Convoy.  It arrested and charged Chris Barber and Tamara Lich, who has spent more time incarcerated than a convicted offender.  All because Justin Trudeau didn’t want to look weak by compromising, by saying “we’ll find another way.”

It is Mr. Trudeau who has created a pool of hatred and anger in this country that will take decades to go away.

Class snobbery and contempt are terrible weapons to use against hard-working, tax-paying, salt-of-the-earth Canadians.

  1. “If you allow the government to break the law because of an emergency the government will always create an emergency to break the law.”
