Omicron OMG!

The panic-porn machine is getting cranked up into high gear over the omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus, and you have to wonder why?  Little is known about this specific variant except that the doctor who first reported it said symptoms were mild.

The signs of official hysteria are everywhere: travel restrictions, yet more demands for vaccinations and lockdown measures, and Moderna is saying it can develop a vaccine especially tailored to the Omicron variant within 100 days.  Because the current vaccines may not work against it? (So, what’s the case again for vaccine mandates against a virus the current vaccines don’t work against and, in any event, produces mild symptoms?)

What will soon be realized is that a whole host of interests have come together under the COVID safety narrative to restrict human rights, to sharpen divides among people, and in general to condition people to conform without question whenever someone with credentials or pretends to have to power starts to bark orders in the interests of “public safety.”

The Omicron OMG! narrative prompted the Biden-Harris Administration to order a seven day quarantine on overseas travellers arriving in the U.S. regardless of whether they’re vaccinated and have a negative COVID test.  There’s no scientific justification for this abuse of power.  It doesn’t matter.  It’s COVID.  You must obey, or you will be crushed. (Never mind the southern border!  Never mind its already in California!)

The Omicron OMG! panic-porn narrative proceeds in Canada, and why not?  Justin Trudeau stakes his moral authority to his single minded concern for “public safety!”  It’s how he constantly demonstrates his moral and intellectual superiority over his opponents by harping on their moral obtuseness about not understanding the science as he does.  Every Public Health official gets that frisson of power just talking about what restrictions may be necessary to impose under their authority to deal with it.

They’re losing credibility and will never get it back.
