The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

RE: Ottawa mayor declares state of emergency over protests.  By May Warren of the Toronto Star.  Published in the Hamilton Spectator 7 Feb 22

“The sky is falling!  The sky is falling!” says Ottawa mayor Jim Watson over the Truckers for Freedom rally.  This would be the same guy who declared a climate emergency a few years back, and all that came of it was a broken-down LRT! Rallies for freedom are not respected in official Ottawa, whose city motto is “shut-up and obey!”

From his place of hiding, Prime Minister Blackface called the truckers the usual names, racist, white supremacists, etc.  That would include substantial numbers of Sikh, Black, and Indigenous drivers, as well as immigrants from other countries.  The legacy media lapped it up.  Obvious false flag operations continue to be portrayed as representative of the Truckers for Freedom, like the one guy carrying a confederate flag of all things (a media dog whistle that mean nothing to ordinary Canadians).  The truckers now post guards over the national war memorial and the Terry Fox statue to make sure they’re left alone, but this goes unreported in legacy media.  Blackface won’t come out until the big men leave.

The narrative of Canada’s legacy media is negative and worrying.  Everywhere else around the world, the Trucker’s for Freedom rally has received positive attention.  India’s media in particular, peeved that Blackface interfered in India’s farmer’s strike, are ripping him a new one for his hypocrisy now.

Meanwhile, the Spectator’s own hate campaign against unvaccinated kulaks is breaking down.  The page 1 report on a march in sympathy with the Truckers for Freedom significantly contains not one quote from an identified participant.  The Spec did not report a single “march for mandates,” or “give us more repression.” counter-protests occurring anywhere in Canada.

The legacy media’s credibility with the folks is shot.

Panic porn based on a prof's feelings

RE: It may be possible to get Omicron twice.  Variant may not provide immunity.  A CP story by Allison Jones, published in the Hamilton Spectator 5 Feb 22.

The pathetic effort to discredit natural immunity and push the gotta-vaccinate narrative continues.  The story runs, “As many as four million Ontarians may have been infected with the Omicron variant…but their illnesses – particularly the milder ones – may not stop them from being re-infected.  “It’s too early to know for certain, but it doesn’t seem like Omicron provides durable immunity against COVID-19,” said epidemiologist and University of Ottawa associate professor Raywat Deonandan.

It feels like?  Is it too much for a journalist to ask a scientist and professor for his data?  Doesn’t data matter anymore, or is even science reduced to feelings?  Don’t hard facts matter to a journalist, or is Allison Jones a stenographer?

Here are some facts.  Studies in Israel and elsewhere show that recovered cases have on average better resistance and more than seven times durable resistance to reinfection than double vaxxed and boosted people.  In U.S. Senate hearings last week, Bill Cassidy (R-La) asked the CDC director under oath why the CDC hadn’t done studies on natural immunity itself.  The director responded with her usual babble and then collapsed into silence when Cassidy accused the agency of not doing it deliberately so that it wouldn’t know.

Talk about misinformation!  The CP story has no information! Yet, it still offers a scare-mongering headline based on some bloke’s feelings!  Somebody who evidently doesn’t know the science!

In too deep to admit they’re wrong

Vincent J. Curtis

RE: Masking will be the last to go, Moore says.  A CP story by Allison Jones.  Published in the Hamilton Spectator 4 Feb 22

For those who follow these things closely, the statements of Dr. Kieran Moore demonstrate either a near negligent understanding of the science, or deliberate obfuscation to hide the past the incompetence and fakery of Ontario health officials.

Take his statement that vaccines are “safe and effective.”  The vaccines wouldn’t be approved today for lack of effectiveness.  They lack endurance, and against delta and Omicron they don’t stop infection or transmission.  As vaccines, they’re failures.  As for safe, well that depends on age; if you’re a young man, they offer more risk than reward.

“Masking will be the last public health measure to go.” Cloth and surgical masks have been discredited as spread preventers.  CNN’s own medical experts called masks “facial decorations.”  It used to be social distancing, with masking only if close contact indoors was unavoidable.  Masking took on a life of its own as public health officials stumbled around looking for panaceas.  Wave 2, 3, and now 4 (or 5) came and went despite mask mandates.  The studies have long been in, that mask can’t filter out viruses.  There never was any science that established correct social distancing or effectiveness of masks, it was all guessing.  The science and data are in, and Moore refuses to take cognizance because to do so would expose that he and his colleagues had only been pretending to expertise.

Moore admits that Omicron is “difficult to control,” so how is it rational to continue policies and practices that failed against variants less “difficult to control” than Omicron?

Moore says that Ontario will reassess the need for vaccine passports because vaccination only seems to reduce severity of infection, and Omicron by its nature is less severe.  Comparing this with Moore’s statement that vaccines are “safe and effective” shows that he’s talking out of both sides of his mouth, if he even realizes it.  In his discussion about the unvaccinated – about ten percent of the population – being at risk of Omicron, Moore admits inter alia that the unvaccinated are likely to catch the disease from a vaccinated person. Mass vaccination was supposed to induce herd immunity at the 70 percent level, and it hasn’t even at 90 percent.  This once again undercuts the claim that vaccines are effective, and Moore is saying that they’re ineffective as vaccines against Omicron.  They’re usefulness is in reduced severity.

Moore then switches to the irrational statement that excluding the unvaccinated from gatherings “protects them well against transmission and against severe outcomes.”  Moore has already admitted that Omicron is less severe.  Omicron is wildly transmissible so there is no basis for saying that the unvaxxed are well protected against transmission and against severe outcomes by being excluded from society. We’re talking probabilities here, and in the absence of actual data Moore’s statement is unsupportable.  Actually, the evidence is averse, for passports and masks and lockdown did not prevent the rise of the Omicron wave.

By his own statements, Dr. Moore demonstrates that he has no rational grasp on the issues, he does not know the science; and there are a lot of reputations at stake if the public perceives that they have been misled by incompetence all along.  Moore can’t ever admit that either he or his colleagues were wrong, and have been relying on trial and error all this time.  They’re credentials weren’t worth spit in this crisis because they never took the courses that would have led them to right answers.

Global warming strikes again!

Vincent J. Curtis

3 Feb 22

RE: Hamilton is expecting 20-35 cm of snow tonight, and a low of -18℃ tomorrow.

As Hamilton digs out from another dump of global warming, little doubt remains.  If this continues, this planet will be cooked in eight years and it will be Canada’s fault!

Until the planet cooks, Canadians need to keep from freezing to death.  Regrettably, the TV monitor that sits where a Prime Minister should be isn’t aware of the limitations of his favorite hobby horses.  The TV monitor didn’t know that solar panels don’t work when covered by a foot of snow.  Windmills don’t turn when under an Arctic high pressure system – there’s no wind.  This is important because when the TV-cum-PM was asked what percentage of Canadians heated their homes with Saudi Arabian oil, the image spoke in its breathiest voice about windmills.  The TV-cum-PM didn’t know that thirty percent of Canadians heat their homes with Saudi oil.

Luckily, Hamilton can rely on Alberta.  Alberta is Ontario’s friendly and reliable source of ethical oil and gas.  With oil trading at $90 per bbl and nat gas at $4.90, Alberta wants Ontario to burn carbonaceous fuel like it’s going out of style, as it may well be. (If they can ever fix the problems with windmills, solar panels, and batteries.)  The Alberta advantage is that none of the money leaving Ontario leaves Canada.  Some thirty percent of Canadians are paying for the upkeep of the Saudi monarchy.

With more global warming in the offing, Alberta will keep Ontario from freezing one way or another.

Quacks still running Ontario COVID response

Vincent J. Curtis

2 Feb 22

RE: Easing restriction will increase cases, advisors say.  A CP story written by Allison Jones.  Published in the Hamilton Spectator 2 Feb 22.

What is this story except another turn of panic-porn to justify lockdowns?  The alleged experts who said this don’t know the science, and don’t even understand Ontario’s own data.  Lockdowns don’t work on a mass scale.  They don’t prevent the spread and, as we’ve seen with Justin Trudeau, locking the uninfected up with the infected actually promotes the spread - duh!  That’s why case numbers continued rising weeks after lockdowns 1, 2, and 3 were imposed.

Omicron was so wildly contagious that no measures were going to stop its spread, and nobody’s claimed that restrictions did anything to change the Ontario cases curve since December.  Omicron peaked high and fast, and is dropping fast.  We also learned that vaccines are useless in preventing spread.  Even the vaxxed and boosted get COVID and transmit COVID, and the only benefit now claimed for vaccination is reduced morbidity.  Yet, Omicron is noted for its low severity even in the unvaxxed.

The quacks demonstrate their incompetence when they say, “Relaxation of these measures will increase the spread of COVID-19.”  They’re assuming against the science and data that their measures actually did something to slow the spread, like closing strip clubs at 11:00 pm instead of 1:00 am.  They don’t tell you that it’s the area under the curve, not the shape of the curve, that matters.  Those cases are coming willy-nilly sooner or later, measures or not.

They’re quacks pulling the wool over the eyes of the stenographers in the media.  The story goes to note that ‘expert modelling’ (is there any other kind?) shows a wide range of scenarios with hospital admissions rising to 6,000 from its current 3,000 in six weeks.  There’s no explanation as to how that happens, since it's nothing but fiddling with variables and watching how the outcome changes.  You can’t model the effectiveness of lockdowns because they don’t have measurable effectiveness.  It’s all a complicated business unmoored from reality, and the modellers are complaining about lack of good input data.  Garbage in, garbage out is screaming out of the story, and so is the adage, “if you torture the numbers enough, they’ll confess to anything.”  But admitting that might impugn the authority of the ‘expert modellers’ and vitiate the purpose of the story, which is to keep the scare in people.

This story had no business being printed because the ‘expert modellers’ can’t show a case based on the data they have.  Scaring people was all this story was about, but neither the writer nor the editor was ready to call b.s. on the quacks, er, their sources running Ontario’s COVID response.

Proliferation of stupidity at Spec ‘alarming trend'

Vincent J. Curtis

1 Feb 22

RE: Proliferation of guns on city streets is an ‘alarming trend.’ By Nicole O’Reilly. The Hamilton Spectator 1 Feb 22.

They say that a fish rots from the head back.  Well, the rot at the Spectator has reached the level of crime reporter!  Take the fretting offered as a story-cum-editorial by Nicole O’Reilly at reference.  Its sole purpose is to establish the premise for a confiscation of guns from law-abiding gun owners.  “Criminals have so many guns, so let’s take guns away from the law-abiding!!!”  I can hear it now.

The gun shown at the top in the accompanying photograph appears to be an M&P Shield, which is illegal in Canada because the barrel length is too short.  That gun did not pass through the hands of a law-abiding Canadian gun owner.  The shotgun below, if it has a shoulder stock, is not easy to conceal, and if it has none, is impossible to shoot.

I say we should take the same approach to guns on the street as we did with COVID.  Very few people actually had COVID at any one time but we vaccinated the entire population to protect the vulnerable from it.  If we legalized concealed carry as they have in much of the U.S., it would be like mass vaccination.  Plenty of “the vaccinated” would be around to stop the spread of the few cases of “COVID” that crop up.

Making global warming a cool idea

Vincent J. Curtis

26 Jan 22

RE: Record cold?  Not even close.  By Sebastian Bron.  The Hamilton Spectator 26 Jan 22.

The Spectator is trying its best to make global warming seem like a cool idea.  The cold January of 2022, didn’t even crack the top (or bottom) 25 coldest Januarys since 1959, the story says.  The coldest January was in 1994, so the global warming that has allegedly occurred since then has made this January more tolerable than it would have been otherwise.  Not bad.

What’s wrong with Hamilton having a climate something like that enjoyed in Ohio, I ask?  It’s better than having a climate like that of Sudbury in winter!

It’s amusing to read grousing about temperatures falling to -20℃.  In the three weeks that followed December 22, -20℃ was a good daily high around in southern Alberta, with nightly lows sinking to or below -35℃.  Try cranking an engine in that kind of cold.  After three weeks of that, at -10℃ it’s pleasant enough outside that lips can enjoy embracing a smoking stogie for more than an hour.  At -5℃, the temperatures Hamilton is complaining about, we’re ready to break out the tanning lotion.

Get used to that Alberta-style winter weather!  Alberta’ll send you as much of it as she can.  Sort-of as creative marketing.  That’s Alberta natural gas that’s keepin’ y’all warm and cozy in Ontario.  Burn it like it’s going out of style!

Global warming is a cool idea.  Let’s have more of it.  Alberta is all in!
